John Fischer, MD, MPH
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon
John P. Fischer, MD, MPH, FACS is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine. His practice includes reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Americas Hernia Society. He is also the Director of Clinical Research in the Division of Plastic Surgery. Fischer has over 180 peer-reviewed publications, including over 40 publications on hernia and is regarded as an expert in complex hernia repair and prevention. He has created the Abdominal Hernia Q (AHQ), the first, patient-informed, disease-specific tool for measuring health-related quality-of-life in hernia repair which was recently published in the Annals of Surgery. He has received funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and Plastic Surgery Foundation (PSF). Prior to joining the University of Pennsylvania faculty, Dr. Fischer completed his undergraduate studies at Hamilton College and medical school at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY graduating AOA. Dr. Fischer completed his general surgery and plastic surgery training at the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a Masters in Public Health from the Bloomberg School at Johns Hopkins.
